Police Suspect Murder After Body Found in Burned Car on Mountain Road

Authorities in Chiang Mai are investigating what they believe to be a murder after the body of a young businessman was discovered in a burned car along a mountain road in Doi Saket district.

Gruesome Discovery

At approximately 2:00 a.m., Pol. Col. Supachai Jantra, Chief of Doi Saket Police, received a report of a vehicle fire in the foothills of Village 5, Thep Sadet sub-district. When firefighters extinguished the blaze, they found the charred remains of a man inside a white Suzuki sedan, license plate ChY 3710.

The victim was identified as Kunsin Intayos, 32, a well-known local businessman from Ban Luang Nuea in Doi Saket. His body, nearly reduced to a skeleton, was found in the back seat of the destroyed car.

Linked Assault in San Sai

Investigators quickly connected the discovery to an earlier incident in San Sai district. Hours before the car was found, Mae Jo Police Station officers had responded to a violent assault at a home in Pa Phai sub-district.

At house number 347, Village 13, police found blood stains throughout the property, including in the bathroom, and recovered a bloodied hammer believed to be the weapon.

The homeowner, Wachirawit Boontawi, 28, was found severely injured and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.

CCTV Evidence and Witness Accounts

CCTV footage revealed at least three suspects entering Wachirawit’s home earlier in the evening. Neighbors later reported hearing a heated argument and a struggle before someone drove away in Kunsin’s car.

Police believe Kunsin, who had gone to Wachirawit’s residence that night, was overpowered by the suspects. His body was later discovered in his own vehicle, which had been driven into a remote area, crashed, and set ablaze.

Motive and Early Findings

Investigators suspect the crime stemmed from a personal or business dispute, as both victims were reportedly acquaintances and involved in local enterprises.

“The evidence suggests this was not a random attack,” one police source said. “The suspects and victims likely knew each other, and the burning of the car appears to have been a deliberate attempt to destroy evidence.”

The injured survivor, Wachirawit, has not yet been able to provide a statement due to his condition. However, police believe he may hold key information about the attackers.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have already identified several main suspects and are working to gather further evidence. Forensic teams are examining the car remains, the hammer, and other items recovered at the scene.

Pol. Col. Supachai Jantra confirmed that police are treating the case as a likely homicide. “This was a brutal act. Our priority is to bring those responsible into custody as quickly as possible,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing, with officers pursuing leads that could connect the suspects to organized crime or financial disputes.
