ICE Arrests Convicted Sex Offender in Los Angeles
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have arrested a Guatemalan national and registered sex offender living illegally in the United States.
The man, identified as Christopher Escoto-Barrientos, had previously been convicted of possessing obscene material involving a minor in sexual conduct. Despite his conviction, authorities say he was residing in Los Angeles near a school, raising serious safety concerns for the community.
ICE Operation
ICE Los Angeles special agents and officers conducted the arrest as part of an ongoing operation targeting individuals who pose threats to public safety. Officials stressed that Escoto-Barrientos’ presence near a school was especially troubling given his criminal history.
Possible Deportation
Escoto-Barrientos is now in federal custody and faces possible deportation proceedings. ICE stated it will continue to prioritize the removal of individuals with criminal convictions, particularly those that endanger children and vulnerable residents.
Authorities reiterated that this case highlights the importance of immigration enforcement efforts in protecting communities.
