Thai Man Meditates Beside Mother After Fatal Attack
A chilling crime has shocked Khon Kaen after a 31-year-old man fatally attacked his mother, then calmly meditated beside her body.
The incident unfolded yesterday morning, September 4, in the Ban Lan sub-district of Ban Phai district. At around 9.30am, residents reported hearing screams for help coming from the home. Alarmed, neighbors waited until the noise ceased before forcing their way inside.
What they found was horrifying. The victim, the suspect’s mother, lay dead with multiple wounds and severe facial injuries, believed to have been caused by repeated blows and her head being smashed against a pillar.
Sitting beside her body was her son, identified only as “Golf,” in a state of meditation. Witnesses at the scene immediately suspected him of the brutal attack and alerted authorities.
Police officers from Ban Phai Police Station, along with rescue workers, quickly arrived. Golf admitted to the killing, telling investigators that he did not suffer from mental illness but had been under immense stress. He claimed his mother forced him to take medication he did not want, which led to ongoing conflict.
“I didn’t want to take it, but she pressured me constantly,” he reportedly told police. “It made me snap.”
Authorities confirmed that Golf had no prior criminal record and had never used drugs. A drug test carried out immediately after the arrest came back negative. Locals also said he had never shown violent behavior before and rarely argued with his mother, making the attack all the more shocking.
Under Section 289 of Thailand’s Criminal Law, Golf faces the death penalty for the intentional killing of a parent.
This tragic case follows another gruesome matricide in Bangkok’s Romklao area last month, where a man killed his mother, hid her body in a bathtub, and attempted to cover the odor with clothes and cement before surrendering to police.
The Khon Kaen killing has sparked renewed concern over hidden tensions within families and how untreated stress and domestic conflict can erupt into devastating violence.
