PATTAYA — A potential gang clash involving 22 foreign youths was narrowly prevented after Pattaya City Police, led by Pol. Col. Anek Sarethongyoo, acted on a tip-off from the Pattaya Special Operations Team on Tuesday night.
Authorities responded to reports of armed individuals loitering near the skate park by Bali Hai Pier, a location just minutes from Walking Street, a major tourist hub.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a large group of male foreign nationals, including individuals from Cambodia, Myanmar, and members of the Karen ethnic group. A search of the premises uncovered over ten concealed weapons — including knives, machetes, and improvised blades wrapped in black tape — hidden around the skate park.
Police suspect the group was preparing for a brawl, though their swift intervention prevented any violence. Officers also seized ten motorcycles for inspection, as most of the group were unable to provide identification.
All 22 individuals were detained and taken to Pattaya City Police Station for questioning and identity verification. The seized weapons and motorcycles remain under investigation, and any found in violation of Thai law will face criminal charges.
Officials praised the effective coordination between special operations teams and police in neutralizing a serious public safety threat in a high-traffic tourist area.
