A 46-year-old man accused of murdering his wife in Kerala has been found dead on a railway track in Tamil Nadu, in what police believe to be a case of suicide.
The accused, identified as Suresh Kumar, was the prime suspect in the killing of his 36-year-old wife, Haseena Beevi, at their home in Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram. His body was discovered on a railway track in Chidambaram on Thursday, as police teams were actively searching for him following the murder.
According to preliminary investigations, Suresh fled the scene shortly after the incident, taking approximately Rs 15,000 in cash. Authorities tracked his movements using CCTV footage, which showed his vehicle travelling from Nalanchira towards Nemom.
Police said Suresh attempted to mislead investigators by abandoning his mobile phone near a hotel in Killipalam before continuing his escape. His car was later found abandoned near Balaramapuram railway station, leading investigators to believe he boarded a train and crossed into Tamil Nadu.
Authorities suspect that Suresh ended his life by jumping in front of a train. Further investigations are underway, with Kerala police coordinating closely with their counterparts in Tamil Nadu.
The murder occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at the couple’s residence. Police revealed that the couple had been experiencing ongoing marital problems and had even attended a counselling session at a police station just a day before the incident. At the time, they had reportedly agreed to continue living together.
However, tensions resurfaced shortly after. Investigators said an argument broke out between the couple, reportedly linked to Suresh’s suspicions of an extramarital relationship involving his wife.
Following the dispute, Beevi went upstairs to a bedroom, but Suresh allegedly followed her. Police allege that he confronted her and fatally attacked her with a knife, inflicting severe injuries.
The incident took place while several family members were inside the house, including the couple’s four children and Beevi’s mother. The couple’s elder daughter alerted the Mannanthala police immediately after the attack.
A postmortem examination later revealed the severity of the injuries. Doctors reported a deep wound to the neck that severed bones, along with a fatal stab injury to the chest. Police confirmed that these injuries led to her death.
The case has shocked the local community, particularly due to the presence of family members during the incident and the apparent escalation of a domestic dispute into fatal violence.
Police continue to complete formal procedures and gather additional evidence related to both the murder and Suresh’s death. Authorities have reiterated the importance of addressing domestic conflicts early, as cases like this highlight how quickly situations can turn tragic. https://www.facebook.com/crimeasianews
